I find is so funny how most.. if not all of the ppl here have their ninja facts so wrong =[, ninjas weren't valiant heroes, protectors of the innocent, unrelenting fighters, or anything of the sort, their idea of winning a fight would be if they killed the opponent or escaped, they were originally monks which lived in the mountains in japan, ninjas weren't born... they were made.. typically from kidnapped children, the type of training they were forced to do pretty much since birth would be considered child abuse today, their weapons weren't super powerful or special.. they were actually very cheap low grade weapons, made from cheap materials because pheasants weren't allowed to own weapons, they didn't use katanas they used ninja swords which were straight and wider than katanas (purposely made this way to trick samurai into thinking the swords were longer than they were if held pointed at the samurai's face it would cause the samurai to miss when trying to strike the blade out of the way leaving him vulnerable to attack) along with an arsenal of other weapons, the reason everyone assumes ninjas were some kind of super fighter is because ninjas wanted people to believe that, they purposely did things to make samurai think they were impossible to kill so if they had to fight samurai the samurai would be so scared that his fighting abilities would be lessened giving the ninja more of a chance to win, ninjas were eventually hired by the government(same people they were fighting, but under a different shogun, tokugawa) as mercenaries. anyway back on topic =]

the reason ninjas are better than pirates is because ninjas used their strength, technique, and most importantly mind to manipulate everyone into such a state that the mere mention of the word ''ninja'' would strike fear into their hearts, while pirates' goals were much simpler, they merely plundered and scavenged for profit using very little creativity in achieving their goals.
